At Fishbone Kitchen + Bar, Happy Hour referred to as "Cocktail Hour," occurs daily from 3pm-6pm and 3pm to close on Monday. The owner, Chef Pedro, is Portuguese and emigrated to Canada. Following his soccer career, his passion for cooking led to four successful Fishbone Restaurants in Ontario, Canada. During a vacation with his family, Pedro fell in love with Laguna Beach and jumped at the chance to fulfill a dream to open his fifth Fishbone on Restaurant Row.
At Fishbone, the menu items rotate based on seasonal availability and freshness. You'll want to try several dishes for their unique flavors and family recipes reminiscent of Portugal's seaside. Boquerones are marinated white anchovies with jalapeno, lime, and cilantro ($8); Garlic Shrimp with chilies, butter, and sea salt ($8); Prince Edward Island Mussels in a coconut Piri Piri broth, chilies, cilantro lime ($12). Other options include fried Goat Cheese with orange honey, apple slaw and candied pecans ($9); Lamb Burger with brie cheese, smoked bacon and Piri aioli ($13); double-fried Russet Potato Fries with truffle aioli dip ($6), and Shishito Peppers blistered and salted with lime ($8).
The attention-grabbing presentation of the Flaming Chourico Sausage ($10) is a typical Portuguese dish presented atop a Porcelain pig from Portugal. The sausage cooks over a bed of Agua Dente, a Portuguese Moonshine, which is extremely flammable. A side of sweet and sour apple chutney sauce is great for dipping and recommended to enjoy with house-made focaccia bread ($6).
Fishbone Kitchen + Bar invites customers during Cocktail Hour to enjoy unlimited Oysters for a Buck a Shuck with purchase of a drink. Oysters rotate for freshness, and when the Kumai Oysters from Baja, California are in season they pair well with a light, crisp Portuguese Meandro white wine from the Douro region. Sangria, Margarita, or Mule are also on the Cocktail Hour menu. During the winter you can time a perfect sunset to make the Cocktail Hour even more marvelous.
