Nita Whitaker

Date: Saturday, August 3

A favorite singer of legendary producer David Foster, Nita Whitaker has sung with some of the most famous voices of our time. She sang the original demos for Whitney Houston’s standards, “I Will Always Love You”, “I Have Nothing” and “I Look to You” working with producers David Foster and Walter Nelson Jr.  Having toured with Andrea’ Bocelli as a guest duet artist, as well a featured vocalist on tour with jazz trumpeter Chris Botti, Nita has performed with some of the great singers of our time including Michael Bolton, Lionel Ritchie, Yolanda Adams, Patti LaBelle, Barbara Striesand, Patti Austin, Josh Groban, and Michael Bublé. She has entertained thousands as well hundreds in her own intimate one woman shows, charity galas and corporate events; her expansive talent and humor continues to find new avenues to be expressed.

 

Adult and Teen Art Classes

Watercolors with Christine Sullivan

Date: Saturday, August 3

Time: 3pm – 5:30pm

Cost: $60 (includes Festival admission)

This is a beginning transparent watercolor class which will cover the basic watercolor techniques and methods. Using these techniques along with some design and composition concepts, students will create their own beautiful landscape painting to take home. Wine & Painting Nights

Cost: $75 (includes Festival admission)

Uncork your creativity this summer at the Festival of Arts! Enjoy a fun painting workshop, while surrounded by beautiful art. Learn easy step-by-step processes, as taught by noted Festival exhibitors. Beginners and all levels are invited – take home your finished masterpiece! All supplies and complimentary wine or beverage are included. $75 materials fee per person, per class. For adults 21 and up. Reservations required. Adult and Teen Art Classes

Mosaic Tile with Carolyn Machado

Date: Sunday, August 4

Time: 3pm – 5:30pm

Cost: $60 (includes Festival admission)

This class will introduce students to the "art of mosaic.” We will be working on a small tile, using simple design elements to create a unique piece of artwork. Decorative tiles will come to life with the use of colorful and interesting pieces of broken pottery, tiles and small beads. Youth Arts Education Workshops

Dates/Times: July 8 – August 16

Mondays – Fridays 1pm & 3pm

Cost: $20+ material fee/session 

Bring out that creative spark in your young artist at the Youth Art Classes this summer at the Festival of Arts. Kids will enjoy art classes taught by professional Festival artists in mixed-media, watercolors, collage and more. Meanwhile, parents will have free time to view the artwork on display throughout the Festival grounds. Festival artists will also share some of their creative techniques in a fun and friendly environment that will inspire your kids to come back every week! Open to children ages 5 – 12. Art & Story Time

Art and Story Time is a weekly series for children 5 and under. Every Monday from 12:30 to 1:30pm, enjoy a different book read aloud plus a hands-on art project. Fun for children and their parents! The featured book on Monday, August 5, is “Introducing Little Miss Jelly Bean” written by Dan Taylor. Meet Little Miss Jelly Bean and learn about all of the different things that she likes. Little Miss Jelly Bean really, really likes a lot of the same things that other toddlers do, such as dancing, playing in the sand, drawing with crayons, and reading picture books. Little Miss Jelly Bean is inspired by the author’s own bow wearing two-year-old daughter.

 

Portraits on the Green

Dates: Tuesday, August 6

Time: 1 – 2pm

Watch as Festival of Arts exhibitors paint, sculpt or photograph live models on the Festival’s Concert Stage. This series will focus on how an artists’ interpretation of the same subject matter can vary based on their own unique style and perspectives. Patrons are invited to observe the artists at work for an up-close look at their creative process.

 

Art Talks and Tea

Whether you’re an informed connoisseur, an amateur collector, or an art lover, join us for fascinating and informative discussions with the Festival of Arts exhibitors at our Art Talks and Tea, sponsored by PBS SoCal. Enjoy tea on the Festival’s green while listening to artists talk about their inspiration, history, and careers in art. On Wednesday, August 7, the topic will be “Portraiture,” when portrait artists from different mediums share their techniques and inspirations.

 

Art, Jazz, Wine & Chocolate

Chocolate, wine, and all that jazz sweetens up the Festival of Arts this summer! On Thursday nights, indulge your senses at the Art, Jazz, Wine and Chocolate series. Sample a wide variety of Kendall-Jackson wines expertly selected to compliment and enhance the nuanced flavor of high-end chocolates from Cocoa Parlor. The Festival’s casual and classy outdoor setting, together with the soulful sounds of jazz surrounded by fine art, creates an ideal evening for friends, sweethearts, and family. 

 

Accomplished studio musician and renowned singer/songwriter/guitarist/vocalist, Kleber Jorge, has been captivating audiences for over two decades. Kleber Jorge, who tours with Sergio Mendes and others, hails from a family rich in musical tradition. His father, a bass player and music instructor was a major influence in Kleber’s musical education in their native Brazil. Kleber studied classical guitar, cello and voice as well as music theory and harmony at the Escola de Musica UFRDJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro). Prior to moving to Los Angeles, he performed in Rio’s hottest night clubs. His debut solo CD Voltar Pro Rio (Back to Rio) produced by Dori Caymmi for Sonic Images is a favorite of Brazilian jazz fans throughout the world. His vocals are described as masterful, soulful and capturing the essence of Brazilian emotion.

 

Art and Yoga with Lululemon

Grab your yoga mat and get ready to flex your creative muscles at the Festival of Arts for “Art and Yoga.” Experienced yoga instructors will guide participants through a relaxing and meditative session outdoors surrounded by fine art. Whether you are brand new to yoga and want to test the waters or an experienced Yogi, all skill levels are welcome.

Girl’s Jazz Night

Date: Friday, August 9

On Fridays the Festival brings to center stage some of those amazing voices that are usually seen (and heard) in the background with the music series “Step into the Spotlight.” There’s an extraordinary lineup of back-up singers or background vocalists who will take the stage this summer. Tony Guerrero brings together four of Southern California’s best young jazz singers for a swinging night of music. Featured performers include Lia Booth, Natalie Mendoza, Gina Saputo and Jamie Shew.

 

Pints, Pinots and Prints

Date: Friday, August 9

Time: 8:30 – 10pm

Cost: $75 (includes Festival admission) 

Create a beautiful one-of-a-kind print with Festival exhibitor Vinita Voogd! Using a variety of colorful handmade papers and hand cut relief blocks, students will learn the basics of monoprint and overprint techniques in this creative printmaking class. Beginners and all levels are invited – take home your finished masterpiece! All supplies and complimentary wine or beverage are included. For adults 21 and up.
