"Hanging" at KAABOO

KAABOO Year #5 was an odyssey of incredible bands and new music discoveries. The weather was pretty toasty but a hat, loose clothing, sunscreen and water refills at stations throughout were the perfect antidote. The schedule was pretty tight and often required long hauls to various stages so comfy kicks were a must. The old adage "You Get What You Pay For" was never more true than at KAABOO where 4 distinct tiers of music society exist.

  1. HANG LOOSE (3-day $199 +$28 fee) is basically General Admission and is pretty decent. You get healthy samples of snacks to sustain you, real bathrooms if you go inside the buildings and all the same live music (except the VIP Amplify stage) but you have to stake your spot early or risk getting ousted by security if the crowd disapproves of your tactics of getting closer.
  2. VIP HANG FIVE (3-day $799 +$43 fee) requires a bit of splurging but is highly recommended. At this level you get preferred viewing with fake grass beneath you, as opposed to concrete, and easy access to food and beverages and nicer bathrooms.
  3. VIP HANG TEN (3-day $2,999 +$110 fee) entitles you to dance freely while the headlining act is 50 feet from you and food and drinks are on the house...well worth forfeiting your kids braces.
  4. and finally the ULTIMATE HANG (3-day $17,500) grants you full time hobnobbing backstage accompanied with bottles of Dom for refreshment. Unfortunately, I can only report hearsay on that one.

As for the media covering KAABOO organizers were very good to us. Newcomers Badflower, Grizfolk and Walden were mind blowing discoveries while established acts like Bryan Adams, Duran Duran, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, One Republic, Squeeze and Switchfoot continued to amaze audiences with their timeless magic.

KAABOO 2020 will be held at Petco Park in downtown San Diego, Sept. 18-20, so my advice is to break the piggy bank and Go Big!....you'll never regret it.
