James Clay Garrison’s Giant Peach!

Prior to moving to Laguna in 2011, James Clay Garrison had been playing gigs here since the ’90s, dividing his time between South LA and Orange County. He gives props to local concert promoter, Rick Conkey, whose bookings at The Cliff and Friday nights at Hotel Laguna contributed to the band’s rise in popularity. Last summer Sawdust Art Festival offered to showcase him in 11 gigs and James and his Giant Peach was awarded the “Best Local Band” of 2017 by Lagunans. James’ versatility allows him to play solo or duo with his son Cory whose incredible talents combine drums, piano and bass. There’s also a version of the band called “Peach Fuzz” featuring up and comers who jam at Laguna Beach Brewery and Grille.

Currently on the marquee stages of Marine Room Tavern and Mozambique it’s hard not to hit the dance floor on a weekend when The Giant Peach band ad libs requests into the their zesty medleys. As James points out, they are a performance band and closing a set with an intricate, mind-bending version of Eleanor Rigby illustrates that point. Their “IPOD” style format covers every kind of classic hit from Prince to Marley but putting their own spin on it. Songwriting has been a passion from early on for James and there are gems he wrote for the band sprinkled throughout the set. Music lovers who have a taste for expert musicianship can definitely sink their teeth into this juicy peach!
