The Weekend That Was, and The Week That Will Be!

It seemed the weekend warriors were still recovering from the holidays; however, the musicians were back at it. As always, on Friday, legend Frank Simes and Topcat put on a stellar show at Mozambique, so did SlapBak on Saturday, who packed the house at Mozambique on New Year's Eve.

Laguna Playhouse began their string of musical tributes over the weekend with an Eagles cover band "One Of These Nights." Everyone we talked to gave a glowing review and thought they heard the real thing. Up next is a tribute to The Beach Boys.

The Pageant of the Masters held a casting call for the upcoming summer show "Made in America." Lines were lengthy to register and get measured by personnel, but snacks were in abundance, and the overall mood was jovial. Word is the show relies more on male roles, so in the event they don't meet the requirements they'll hold another casting call. We'll keep you informed.

Yesterday, the 90 minute Downtown Action Plan (D.A.P.) meeting at the Susi Q focused solely on choosing tree palates and tree well designs for three downtown city streets. The Downtown Action Plan will be presented in its entirety at the Chamber of Commerce sponsored meeting at City Council Chambers on Jan. 24th from 7:30 am-9 am.

THIS WEEK:

TUES: Even if you don't perform you can sing along with all the colorful characters at the long-time running Karaoke Tuesday Night. Hosted by the one and only Peggie Perkins at Main Street Bar and Cabaret, Laguna's only gay bar.

WED.: Dizz's As Is is a great mid-week dining spot or bar hang to listen to Maureen O'Sullivan Bryant and John Heussenstamm perform Jazz standards spanning the decades, 5:30 pm-9 pm.

THURS: Film Night: Laguna Art Museum's curated cinema presents Under The Silver Lake, a 2018 American neo-noir black comedy conspiracy thriller film written, produced, and directed by David Robert Mitchell. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students.

This weekend Laguna Playhouse presents a one weekend only engagement of The Perfect Dog, The Musical, inspired by the book written by John O'Hurley, an accomplished stage and screen actor, best selling author, and composer. This heartwarming musical about man's best friend is sure to be treasured by dog lovers and non-dog lovers alike. Friday through Sunday with two shows on Sat. & Sun. Check out LagunaPlayhouse.com for showtimes and tickets.

SATURDAY:

Are you a fan of Marie Kondo? Wanna learn to de-clutter your home with an expert? Friends of the Laguna Beach Library bring you a free seminar with TIDY WITH SPARK at the Laguna Beach Library on Saturday at 2:30 pm.

SUNDAY:

It seems like a good day for eating, drinking, and listening to music.

The mesmerizing, melodic Grace Freeman plays The Ranch from 12-4 pm when brunch would pair nicely.

Anesha Rose plays The Cliff from 5-8 pm, perfect for sunset cocktails and Cliff apps.

Beth and Steve Wood serenade the guests at GG's Bistro from 6:30-9 pm, with dishes and desserts from the Turkish Mediterranean.
